The gemstone Ruby as you know is one of the most magnificent gemstones available. This romantic piece of gem has bonded the love of many famous people including that of Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan. While a lot has been said and written about the beauty of these gorgeous gems, here is a look at the few countries that are home to the world most finest rubies.

Mogok ,Burma : One of the most precious and beautiful gemstone – Ruby, is found in abundance in Myanmar. The place is known worldwide as “The City of Rubies”. The major source where most Ruby is found in Myanmar is the Mogok region, falling 200km north of Mandalay. The world most rarest and most valuable Ruby 'Pigeon's Blood' is also found here at Mogo. Mogok's Ruby is scarce and is extremely valuable.

Thailand : The Thai rubies are sourced from the Chanthaburi Province of Thailand. The Thai rubies are very different from the Burmese rubies. They have brilliant clarity, but composed of high iron content, which imparts them a dark garnet-like red color. Some collectors find this deep red colored Thai ruby more attractive, therefore, has made Thai ruby one of the most popular choices.

Niassa , Mozambique : Thankfully, a new deposit of amazing rubies was discovered in Niassa in northern Mozambique in 2008, supplying the market with new, natural, and beautiful rubies. Mozambique rubies are known for their vivid red hues and pigeon blood red that can even resemble the likes of Burmese stones.

Mozambique, Niassa has been producing a large number of both fine quality and commercial Ruby. Most fine Quality are referred to unheated Rubies. These are comparable with the legendary “pigeon blood”, which have high market value. On the contrary, lower grade or commercial quality goes through glass filled treatment to enhance the color and clarity and mainly used with Silver Jewelry.

Winza, Tanzania: The source is located in the Tanzanian village of Winza. Winza is popular for its unique variety of Rubies. Winza Ruby is getting a lot of popularity for several reasons. One of the top reasons is that the stones are very transparent. The only other Ruby with similar transparency was the Vietnamese Ruby, which the mine had been completely shut down. Another reason is that the stone doesn't require heat to produce its fantastic clarity or color. They display a very beautiful, vibrant shade of pure red, slightly orangy-red, or orange-red colors.

India : The main source of rubies in India lies in the Karur-Kangayam and Hole-Narsipur belts, in the southern Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. These crystals have many inclusions, but they are eminently suited being cut as beads or cabochons.
